May 9 is the United Bible Societies Day of Prayer.

Please join us on this day in praying for the work of the United Bible Societies fellowship and for each of the 147 Bible Societies operating in 200 territories around the world. Together we're asking all God's people to pray for the spread of God's Word through the world.

Aleksei grew up in Novoaltaysk in the Altai Krai region, in southern Russia. Drugs were easy to come by in those parts, and by the time he was 23 years old Aleksei was a heroin addict.

Many years ago a young Egyptian man, Nazeer Gayed, used to read the Bible passage in the Bible Society bookshop window every day as he walked along the street in downtown Cairo. One day he was struck by John 12.35. It became his call to ministry.

Just a short distance from the Old City in Jerusalem is the Bible Society of Israel’s bookshop. Its attractive displays of Bibles, as well as a large screen TV in the window displaying Bible verses, and a small, permanent Bible exhibition, make it a real beacon of the Christian faith in the area.
