Palmerston North Action Group held their Annual Dinner at Central Baptist Church on 21 August. An excellent buffet meal was prepared and served by the Baptist Church catering team.
Just short of sixty people enjoyed pre-dinner refreshments in the Church reception area upon arrival, and were able to look at and purchase some of the wide range of books distributed by Bible Society, as well as to socialise with friends old and new.
Before introducing the guest speaker, Ron Keen, the Action Group chairman spoke about the work of the Action Group and introduced its members to the gathering. The Action Group is hoping to recruit some younger members to bring new ideas and impetus for the ongoing task of raising funds for Bible Society. A wider range of Church representation on the Group is also being sought. An information leaflet was provided for interested people to take away with them.
Our guest speaker was Francis Burdett, CEO for Bible Society New Zealand. Francis spoke about the distribution of Bibles in Russia and other eastern European countries as well as Bible Society’s activities in other places worldwide and some of the special causes that the Society is involved in. His explanation of the scope of the work and what is needed in future helped us realise that there is much work still to be done. Some of the statistics of published material, both already realised and in the planning were amazing! The worldwide need for the Bible remains an important mission.
