As Maxine (pictured) lay buried under the rubble of her own restaurant, her only comfort was a poster of the Ten Commandments, which she meditated on as she lay trapped. She felt a deep peace that somehow she would be rescued.
Hours later her colleagues managed to clear a small passageway, which she edged herself out of. Although Maxine’s leg was not badly injured, it later became infected and had to be amputated. Bible Society gave Maxine a Bible, which she now reads every day.
“I’m so grateful to have a second chance,” she says. “Through the Bible I am finding hope and a greater understanding of God.”
