Governor General takes oath

New Zealand’s 20th Governor General, His Excellency Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, is pictured, on the day of his swearing in on 31 August 2011, on the steps of Parliament House in Wellington.

His Excellency swore the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office on a King James Version of the Bible, specially presented to him for the occasion by Bible Society, in recognition of the 400th anniversary of the first publication of the King James Bible.
